Dr. Greif, the founder of the Golfweek Wine Club, passed the certified sommelier exam in 2014
and has also passed the WSET (Wine, Spirits Education Trust) level 3 exam. He is involved in
wine education and consulting for restaurants, clubs and wine vendors in his home area of
Eastern Iowa. Much of his wine knowledge comes from his multiple trips to various wine-producing
areas.
Apart from many trips to Napa/Sonoma and Oregon, he has been to Italy (Piedmont, Veneto,
Tuscany & Umbria), France (Bordeaux, Champagne, Burgundy, and Rhone Valley) and Germany/ Austria
and the Porto & Duero Valley regions of Portugal. He also enjoys playing golf and has been a
member of Golfweek Magazine’s golf course raters panel since 2003.
